The Game: Aerial Assist, this year’s robotics game was released on January 4, 2014. The game involves a two minute and thirty second long match. In the first 20 seconds, known as The Autonomous (AUTO) Period, the robot must act without a driver. Although an alliance may start a match with up to three balls, the pedestal will only light up when the last ball that started the match is scored, effectively reducing the number of balls in play per alliance to one. Points are scored by effectively putting a ball in a goal. There are two types of goals: floor goals, and high goals. Both goals earn the robots points, but the point values vary, 1 point for floor goals and 10 points for high goals. Bonus points are available at various times as well. For example, teamwork, “hot” goals and combination goals will score the robots extra points.
