Giving Back

Our Local Community

We provide our community with resources and education, inspiring new members and mentors to join our mission. Each year we spread STEM to our community at large by advertising our team in events such as in the Science and Invention Convention held at Montgomery High School and mentoring our middle school FLL teams. We work to market our team to the younger members of our community by holding annual exhibitions at our town’s Fall Festival, Science Fair, and local library where children play with our VEX robots and learn about our First Robotics Competition Team.

We use Fall Festival, which is Montgomery’s annual community day where children and families enjoy activities and a Halloween Parade, to show off our robot and educate the public on FIRST and our team. We spread the message of STEM to younger members of the community through outreach events such as hands on demonstrations of our smaller VEX robots. During the summer, we volunteer annually at the Summer Enrichment Robotics Program, which is a 3 week program for students from grades 2-8. The counselors, who volunteer, are team members and teach the students basics in both construction and programming while providing a safe and fun environment. These young students become inspired that many of them join our team once
they reach high school. Additionally, we work with children ages 5-14 with developmental disabilities at the Rock Brook School Parent Night Out. With our VEX robots, we teach the students engineering basics and give them a hands-on while forming new friendships.

Board of Education & Township Committee Presentation

To ensure continued community support, we hold annual presentations for our township’s Board of Education as well as our Township Committee. In 2015, our Mayor presented us with a resolution detailing our team’s accomplishments and thanking us for our work. Our presentations and success as a team have resulted in the creation of robotics classes at both our town’s middle and high schools. At the middle school level, robotics is a required cycle course that all the students take. More advanced courses can be taken in high school in various engineering fields.
